Adult Private Violin Lessons

I often hear three things from adult learners.

‘I've always wanted to play the violin, ever since I was a little child,’ ‘Am I your oldest student?’ and ‘Gosh, I'm so nervous!’

Who I Work With

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with many adult learners, each with their own story and journey with the violin.

Some have picked up the instrument for the first time, either during their professional careers or retirement, fulfilling a childhood dream to learn. Others have continued their musical journey from adolescence into their working lives, and a few have returned to the violin after a long hiatus.

No matter what inspires the journey, I always tell people ‘it's never too late to begin – or to start again!’

What Happens in Lessons

I understand that adult learners are often balancing many personal and professional responsibilities. While they may not pursue a music career, they still want to grow and learn, finding fulfillment and enjoyment in the process.

With this in mind, I tailor lessons to match each student’s available practice time and energy while maintaining a safe environment where it’s okay to make mistakes and learn. Material and pacing are chosen to keep lessons motivating while supporting steady progress toward individual goals.

Many adult students find they enjoy learning pieces they love, developing solid technique, and gaining the confidence to play for themselves or others.

How Lessons Take Place

Lessons take place in a 1:1 setting and can be scheduled on a recurring weekly basis or more flexibly on demand. I teach in-person from my Toronto Leaside studio and offer online lessons to students internationally.

Wherever your journey takes you, I hope that you'll discover your own artistry and joy along the way.

"Carmen is a consummate professional and I immediately felt comfortable . . . Learning the violin is one of the hardest endeavours of my life, however, Carmen's constant encouragement has always put my worries at ease."
