Adult Private Lessons

I often hear three things from adult learners: "I've always wanted to play the violin, ever since I was a little child," "Am I your oldest student?" and "Gosh, I'm so nervous!”

Throughout my teaching career, I have enjoyed working with many adult learners, each with their own story and journey with the violin.

Some have picked up the instrument for the first time, either amid their professional careers or retirement, fulfilling a childhood dream to learn. Others have continued their musical journey from adolescence into their working lives, and a few have returned to the violin after a long hiatus.

No matter what inspires the journey, I always tell people it's never too late to begin—or to start again!

I understand that adult learners often balance many personal and professional responsibilities. While they may not pursue a music career, they still want to grow and learn, finding fulfillment and enjoyment.

With this in mind, I work with each student to tailor lessons to match their available practice time and energy, choosing repertoire and setting a flexible pace that keeps them motivated and progressing toward their musical goals.

Lessons are conducted one-on-one and are scheduled on a recurring weekly basis. Based in the Greater Toronto Area, I offer both in-person lessons at my studio space and virtual instruction, connecting with students throughout North America and Asia, including the United States, China, and Saudi Arabia.

“Being an adult learner I was nervous to go and start having lessons with no musical background, but Carmen was very encouraging and great at setting the pace of lessons, giving me relevant feedback, and allowing me to make choices regarding many aspects of my lessons.

She is amazing at identifying my learning style, and takes the time to explain difficult concepts until I am able to understand them. I always look forward to my lessons with her.”
